Glucosamine is an amino sugar, which is used by the body to make glycosaminoglycans and glycoproteins… the “building blocks” for most parts of your joints.Cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and synovial fluid (which cushions every moving part of your body) all require these building blocks for repair and maintenance.
The human body (and animals) does synthesise Glucosamine… however, the amounts produced vary considerably - and as we age, the body synthesises less and less. Many physically active people also supplement to account for increased stress on their joints.
Some studies suggest that Glucosamine supplements not only help to repair damage, but also slow and reduce the damage taken through physical activities.
BENEFITS OF GLUCOSAMINE:
Studies have suggested benefits such as:
Improved Joint Health
Help with Osteoarthritis
Improve Digestion & Gut Health (IBD and Leaky Gut issues)
Long term use has helped many sufferers of TMJ
Reduced Bone Pain
May support Cardiovascular Health by lowering blood C-reactive protein
PURECOSAMINE VS OTHER GLUCOSAMINE:
The most common (and cheapest) form of Glucosamine is Sulphate… which is where the Glucosamine molecule is attached to salt for stability (can be either sodium or potassium).
Purecosamine is a different form, called Glucosamine Hydrochloride (HCL).There are a couple of benefits to this form:1) You get 40% more Glucosamine by weight than in the Sulphate type (so our 900mg is equivalent to 1260mg).2) HCL doesn’t affect people’s salt intake
Purecosamine is manufactured in Germany, using non-GMO corn, which is fermented. The vast majority of Glucosamine comes from shellfish and crustacean skeletons/waste, and is processed in China.
It is 100% pure Glucosamine HCL… many cheap sources also come with stabilisers, flow agents, and other additives. Tablets generally contain substances such as magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide, PVP, maltodextrin, povidone, carnauba wax, and glycerine.
The capsules we use are made from Pullulan, which is synthesised from tapioca - it is completely inert in the human body, and non-allergenic. Pullulan is superior to the more common HPMC vegetarian capsules, or gelatine ones, and is highly resistant to oxygen (keeping the product inside fresher).Unlike tablets, capsules don’t require multiple binding agents, coatings, and preservatives - so you get fewer ingredients.
