CURRENT BATCH EXP: JULY 2024
WHAT IS MAGNESIUM?
Magnesium is arguably the most important mineral in the body, since it is critical in over 300 chemical functions… including protein synthesis, bone development/repair, muscle and nerve functioning, energy production, and more.
Unfortunately, the majority of people are now magnesium deficient… which can lead to symptoms such as:
Muscle Cramps or Twitching — Numbness/Tingling — Restless Legs Syndrome — Insomnia & Sleep Disorders — Muscle Pain & Fibromyalgia — Anxiety — Type II Diabetes — Fatigue & CFS — Migraines — Osteoporosis
WHY ARE PEOPLE DEFICIENT?
Magnesium levels are now lower in natural produce… and the vast majority of people consume poor quality foods anyway. Processed and sugary foods provide almost zero magnesium… High calcium intake can inhibit the body’s ability to absorb magnesium… Frequent consumption of alcohol also blocks your magnesium intake, and can actually leech it from your body.
POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF MAGNESIUM BISGLYCINATE (OR GLYCINATE):
All magnesium supplements provide elemental magnesium, which is required for hundreds of reactions in the body…but each type of supplement has its own additional benefits and strengths…
Studies have suggested benefits from Magnesium Bisglycinate such as:
Considered the most Bio-Available form of Magnesium — very high levels of absorbency.
Improving sleep — it releases the Amino Acid Glycine, which acts to relax the body, and improve sleep quality.
Can be helpful for Anxiety and Stress — this form promotes relaxation, and can reduce the effects of stress.
Bisglycinate is considered to be the most gentle form, and least likely to cause upset stomach or laxative effects.
ARE ALL MAGNESIUM BISGLYCINATE SUPPLEMENTS THE SAME?
Actually, no! Many Mg Bisglyicinate supplements are advertised as “Buffered” — and are not pure Bisglycinate at all. Generally, they mix it with Mg Oxide (cheap, laxative effects, and very low bio-availability), which pushes up the Magnesium levels (allowing their pills to contain 150-300mg of elemental Magnesium per capsule).
This often isn’t well advertised, and the higher dose looks impressive — but many people will experience negative reactions due to the added Mg Oxide.
BISGLYCINATE VS OTHER FORMS:
There are many forms of Magnesium supplement, such as Oxide (very poor), Malate (excellent for pain relief, tiredness,CFS), Taurate (reducing stress, and cardiovascular health), Citrate (laxative effects), Ascorbate (gentle Vitamin C), Threonate (memory and brain boosting) and Bisglycinate… and these different types have advantages and disadvantages. The most common (and cheapest) form is Magnesium Oxide - which has very high levels of magnesium, but only about a 4% availability for the body - and worse, has a strong laxative effect for most people!
Bisglycinate is Magnesium bound to Glycine (an amino acid).
Bisglycinate is considered the best form for sleep, stress, anxiety.
Bisglycinate is generally the most gentle form, and least likely to cause stomach issues or laxative effects.
Bisglycinate contains 13% elemental magnesium, and is the most bio-available.
Interestingly, most supplements in tablet form contain Magnesium Stearate… However, many people are sensitive to it, and can even be fully allergic to it. Some research suggests it can suppress the immune system as well!
Due to the relaxing and de-stressing effects, Magnesium Bisglycinate is best to take with dinner, and/or before bed!
The capsules we use are made from Pullulan, which is synthesised from tapioca - it is completely inert in the human body, and non-allergenic. Pullulan is superior to the more common HPMC vegetarian capsules, or gelatine ones, and is highly resistant to oxygen (keeping the product inside fresher).Unlike tablets, capsules don’t require multiple binding agents, flow agents, coatings, and preservatives - so you get fewer ingredients.
