WHAT IS MAGNESIUM?
Magnesium is arguably the most important mineral in the body, since it is critical in over 300 chemical functions… including protein synthesis, bone development/repair, muscle and nerve functioning, energy production, and more.
Unfortunately, the majority of people are now magnesium deficient… which can lead to symptoms such as:
Muscle Cramps or Twitching — Numbness/Tingling — Restless Legs Syndrome — Insomnia & Sleep Disorders — Muscle Pain & Fibromyalgia — Anxiety — Type II Diabetes — Fatigue & CFS — Migraines — Osteoporosis
WHY ARE PEOPLE DEFICIENT?
Magnesium levels are now lower in natural produce… and the vast majority of people consume poor quality foods anyway. Processed and sugary foods provide almost zero magnesium… High calcium intake can inhibit the body’s ability to absorb magnesium… Frequent consumption of alcohol also blocks your magnesium intake, and can actually leech it from your body.
MALATE VS OTHER FORMS:
There are many forms of Magnesium supplement, such as Oxide (very poor), Bisglycinate (excellent for sleep), Taurate (reducing stress, and cardiovascular health), Citrate (laxative effects), Ascorbate (gentle Vitamin C), Threonate (memory and brain boosting) and Malate… and these different types have advantages and disadvantages. The most common (and cheapest) form is Magnesium Oxide - which has very high levels of magnesium, but only about a 4% availability for the body - and worse, has a strong laxative effect for most people!
- Malate is Magnesium bound to Malic Acid (which is predominantly found in apples).
- Malate is considered the best form for increasing energy, and helping with pain relief.
- Malate is one of the gentlest forms, and less likely to cause stomach upsets, or have a laxative effect.
- Malate contains 15% elemental magnesium, and is highly bio-available.
Interestingly, most supplements in tablet form contain Magnesium Stearate… However, many people are sensitive to it, and can even be fully allergic to it. Some research suggests it can suppress the immune system as well!
Due to many people experiencing increased energy and alertness, it is best to avoid Magnesium Malate in the evening and before bedtime!
For dinner, and before bed, the best form is Magnesium Bisglycinate (which we also sell).
OUR CAPSULES:
The capsules we use are made from Pullulan, which is synthesised from tapioca - it is completely inert in the human body, and non-allergenic. Pullulan is superior to the more common HPMC vegetarian capsules, or gelatine ones, and is highly resistant to oxygen (keeping the product inside fresher). Unlike tablets, capsules don’t require multiple binding agents, flow agents, coatings, and preservatives - so you get fewer ingredients.
