WHAT IS VITAMIN C?
Vitamin C is one of the most important and essential nutrients for the body… It is water-soluble, so it can’t really be stored in the body — and unlike most animals, our bodies cannot synthesise it. It is vital for healthy skin, bones, ligaments, eyes, and cardiovascular system — and is critical for a healthy immune system.
WHERE IS IT MADE?
95% of Vitamin C supplements are manufactured in China. This isn’t necessarily an issue, since they have many extremely advanced factories. However, there are also many poorer quality facilities, which can make low grade supplements with more contaminants, and use questionable ingredients.
Cheap GMO corn is sometimes used, and Vitamin C supplements have been found to contain Glyphosphate, and often contain high levels of heavy metals.
Many people prefer to purchase supplements made in the UK, Europe, or USA — as facilities can have much more stringent requirements and testing. However, a common “trick” is to purchase a supplement powder from China, and then make it into capsules/tablets in the UK, and then state that it was “Made in the UK”.
Our Ascorbic Acid was made here in the UK, and then encapsulated here, with no other ingredients added.
WHICH TYPE OF VITAMIN C SUPPLEMENT?
There are several types of Vitamin C supplement available — Ascorbic Acid, Mineral Ascorbates (Sodium Ascorbate, Calcium Ascorbate, etc), Bioflavonoids, Time-release, Liposomal, Ascorbyl Palmitate. There are pros and cons to all types, with some being more gentle, or possibly more bio-available…
Ascorbic Acid is the original “pure” Vitamin C though, and is chemically identical to the Vitamin C found in nature. Its main downside is that some people experience digestion issues after taking it, since it’s an acid… and larger doses (if not used to it) cause a laxative effect.
NATURAL VS SYNTHETIC?
All of the Ascorbic Acid supplements (and the Ascorbates, Liposomal, etc) are synthetic, being made in labs. The Vitamin C found in foods comes with other co-factors bound to it, such as Choline, Copper, and various plant flavonoids — so many people believe it’s best to get Vitamin C from natural food sources.
There are natural options, such as Acerola Cherry, or Camu Camu (which we sell as capsules) — and these are good for providing the RDA of Vitamin C… but would be exceedingly expensive to take as larger doses. Ascorbic Acid allows for much larger doses, and can be spread out throughout the day to avoid gastric distress.
WHY NO BIOFLAVONOIDS?
There are 2 reasons:
- Whilst Bioflavonoids do have some health benefits, you would need amounts such as 500-1000mg or more to get them… whereas Vit C capsules/tablets generally only contain 20-40mg — far too little to have any benefit.
- Millions of people have allergies or intolerances to citrus… and the very small amount of Bioflavonoids in most Vit C supplements is enough to have a negative effect for those people.
If you want additional co-factors and plant flavonoids, the best option is to add a separate supplement.

OUR CAPSULES:
The capsules we use are made from Pullulan, which is synthesised from tapioca - it is completely inert in the human body, and non-allergenic. Pullulan is superior to the more common HPMC vegetarian capsules, or gelatine ones, and is highly resistant to oxygen (keeping the product inside fresher). Unlike tablets, capsules don’t require multiple binding agents, flow agents, coatings, and preservatives - so you get fewer ingredients.
